Bungo Ono Sauna Experience

For a prefecture like Oita having the most abundant number of hot springs in the world, it is a surprise to see that Bungo Ono does not have any. The history of saunas in Bungo Ono date back to around 500 years ago when our ancestors would use steam rock baths that were carved in the sides of cliffs to relax. From this, we want to honor that history and make an abundant sauna culture in this city.

Towering mountains, beautiful canyons, cliffs and magnificent waterfalls. Bungo Ono is a place where various geological wonders can be seen and as the result of the Mt. Aso eruption that occurred 90,000 years ago. In such a unique land, we have grown rice and delicious vegetables, cultivated the most shiitake mushrooms in Japan, Buddha statues carved into cliffs, and traditional dancing called Kagura.
Six JR stations connect various parts of the city and five roadside stations are full of abundant agricultural products and local craftmanship.
We here at Sato no Tabi want to take your stay and turn it into an adventure.
Stop trying to understand Japan through the cities of today; come to the cities of yesterday and soak in the history that is Japan.
